John Bain, our senior teacher and founder of Spirit Warrior Gate, holds high-rank in and is authorized to teach Spirit Warrior Gate, Pambuan Arnis, Korean Martial Arts (Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, & Kwon Bup Sul), Kenpo (Chinese & Okinawan) and various health systems. Combining over six years in the U. S. Navy and training of police officers with his over 35 years of martial arts experience led to the development of the Spirit Warrior Gate. He has also spent many years teaching martial arts in the public school system through the KICKSTART Foundation. With this knowledge he has crafted our curriculum based on these experiences. Like our educational system with elementary school, middle school, high school and college, we have 4 levels of training.

Little Warriors are 5 to 10 years old and have needs that differ from adults. They usually need to be “rewarded” more often and given smaller “assignments” to be successful; however, they are still responsible for high performance standards required for real self-defense. Since these children operate in a “Child’s World” and should be protected by a supervising adult, they are mainly concerned about dealing with bullies near their own age. Although they may not have the strength to fight off an adult, if an adult should attempt to prey on one of our Little Warriors, they may feel the sting of a little knee or elbow, and be startled long enough for the child to flee to safety. The Little Warrior Black Belt is like graduating from elementary school and is the equivalent of our Adult Kenpo-Arnis Low Green Belt.

Young Warriors are 11 to 15 years old and operate more in the “Adult World.” They are gaining physical and mental strength and are ready to accept more mature challenges. These youth develop more speed and power as they begin to understand the applications of self-defense techniques. Skills are developed quickly through the Young Warrior curriculum. Through hard work, dedication and respect for wisdom and truth, students perfect the material and become worthy of the title, Young Warriors. Black Belt is like graduating from middle school and is the equivalent of the Adult Kenpo-Arnis Brown Belt.

World Warriors and Kuntaw Warriors are adults (minimum age 18 for Black Belt – Gold Sash. They are often responsible for loved ones, and need to be prepared to act decisively in potentially violent situations. At the same time students must deal with the constraints and commitments of the adult world. At Plano Self Defense Studio/Alpha-Omega Self Defense Group, adults appreciate the fact that the training provides a great way to exercise, relieve stress and have fun while learning practical self-defense. The staff members work very hard to ensure that group classes are enjoyable and rewarding, while preparing adults for self defense situations they may encounter. If physical conflict cannot be avoided, students are trained to meet violence with the force necessary to protect themselves and others from harm. The World Warrior Black Belt or the Kuntaw Warrior Gold Sash is like graduating from high school. These students are ready for the world, but the education is just beginning!

Spirit Warriors: Our Little Warrior Black Belts work toward the Young Warrior Black Belt, and our Young Warrior Black Belts work toward the World Warrior Black Belt. After earning the World Warrior Black Belt, adults are welcomed to the Spirit Warrior College to begin advanced and rapid development in the martial arts. As with college, these students can choose ”Majors” and “Minors” for the higher degreed Black Belts, with curricula covering various martial arts of South East Asia. They may decide to learn practical applications of traditional Okinawan Kenpo-Jutsu, Chinese Chuan Fa (Kung Fu), or even Filipino Kuntaw Silat (Fist Way—a form of Filipino Kung Fu). Students may choose to learn Pressure Points or Grappling, or even the health and wellness arts.

They may also choose to study weapons, including short and long impact weapons (from palm stick to bo staff), short and long edged weapons (from knife to spear) and short and long flexible weapons (from handkerchief to bull whip). Students can choose a Focused Major, or have a General Major and learn it all! Earning a Black Belt or Gold Sash is no reason to stop training! A lifetime is not long enough to learn everything there is to know about martial arts, so it is an activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Why not start today? How much does it cost?

It’s a shame that your life or the life of your loved ones could end on this subject. People who know of my martial arts background occasionally ask me what they should pay for their children’s lessons or even for their own. Recently one of my friends called me. He had just visited a school and was shocked at what they were charging! I gave this response.

What are martial arts lessons worth to the shy little boy who never raised his hand in class for lack of confidence? The world of education is passing him by. Gaining the self-esteem to raise his hand and to actually ask questions is worth how much?

What are lessons worth to a single Mom struggling to make it with a young son that lacks focus, motivation and self-discipline. What is it worth if after just several months of training there were tears in her eyes when she and her young son came in to the school with his first ever report card containing an A!

What are lessons worth to the little eight year old girl, whose lessons gave her the ability and skills to kick a stranger hard enough in the shins that he let go of her long enough for her to run away? As a parent I get worried just thinking about such things. But I am sure those parents will never question the value of those lessons.

What are lessons worth to the Mother of a young teen who has attempted suicide because he felt his life was worthless. What are lessons worth to the father with chronic back problems that vanish after several weeks of the stretching exercises before class? What's the increased life span for the Dad looking to vanquish his stress after long days dealing with difficult people and finding serenity just punching and kicking with some newfound friends?

What are lessons worth to the nurse grabbed from behind as she unlocked her car coming off the night shift at a hospital? Thanks to a self-defense oriented system that showed how to use keys and other every day objects as emergency weapons. What are lessons worth to the person, who due to stress, was on the verge of suicide whose life has been turned around due to his training and who also claims he is happier than he has ever been in his life? In a world of gangs, drugs and school shootings we all think it will never happen to our kids. What's it worth to a parents extra peace of mind to have their teen involved in the pursuit of physical and mental excellence while learning the value of respect to themselves and others surrounded by a positive environment of discipline and learning?

What is a child's confidence and self esteem worth? What is it worth to experience the joy of self-discipline, focus, motivation and persistence? What is less stress and better health worth? More importantly, should you ever have to face a threatening situation what is your life worth?

I thank all of my students, parents, and their friends for making our school what it is for it IS you who know and understand the values and benefits of well taught focus, discipline and respect and character education. Oh Yea! Cost? The Basic Training program is $80.00 for the first family member and half price for each additional family member. You are allowed to attend two classes a week at the Harbor Point Community Church location. Drop in rate is $25.00 per visit (Discounts Available). By the way, a portion goes to the church, another portion goes to support missionaries, and another portion goes to help children in our community receive these benefits.
